Are you a victim of some of the plumbing myths? The truth is that people believe certain items are safe for plumbing, but in fact, they’re not. Here are four common plumbing myths that could cost you.
Myth 1: You Cannot Ignore a Leaky Tap
So, your faucet drips? Big deal, right? Even a small leak could turn into an expensive issue. What would it cost you? On average, leaks in homes cause over 10,000 gallons of wasted water each year. It is 270 loads of laundry. A leaky, slow faucet can increase your water bills. If you notice the faucet is leaking, have it repaired sooner instead of later.
Myth 2: Toilet Bowl Tablets with Bleach Clean Toilets
Bleach in a bowl of toilet water? Good idea. Not good. These bleach can be destructive and destroy many of your bathrooms in six months. The best general rule of thumb is to avoid letting bleach in your toilet for longer than 10 minutes.
Myth 3: Grease and Boiling Water = Clear Pipes
Boiling water will do nothing to dissolve the grease circulating across your pipes. The oil coats the pipes and can cause clogs more likely to occur. Always dispose of fat in the garbage.
Myth 4: The Fact That You Can Flush Most Bathroom Products with Toilet Paper
Although it’s widely known not to flush items such as tampons and other feminine products into the bathroom, products marked with “flushable wipes” should not be flushed down your toilet. Anything other than toilet paper should not get flushed. It does not matter if your home gets located on an individual septic tank or the public sewer.
